About me

ZENTANGLE® AND US

For most of my life I have enjoyed art related activities: knitting, sewing, and quilting. I have taught ceramics, I have owned a fabric store and currently I own a longarm quilting business. While doing research about mandalas for a quilt, I stumbled onto Zentangle®, visited www.zentangle.com, bought a couple of Zentangle® instructional books and was hooked. I knew from the start I wanted to meet Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas and become a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT).
In 2013, I attended the Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) 13 seminar in Providence, RI. After returning home, my husband Ed also became hooked and in 2014, together, we returned to Providence for Seminar 16.

The Zentangle trademarked tag line is "You Can Do Anything, One Stroke at a Time.” I had intellectually understood that, but during Seminar 13 I internalized it. It was an awaking. As a quilter I had been told time and time again that patterns are everywhere: on our clothes, in architecture, in nature, etc. Most often, I couldn't see them, but those I did notice, I wouldn't have known where to begin to draw them much less quilt them. As an assignment, at CZT Seminar 13, we were asked to deconstruct a pattern. That assignment was an awakening for me; I finally understood how a pattern could be broken down into its simplest form to reveal its elemental strokes, a series of lines, dots and shapes in a repeated pattern, that allowed me to be able to draw them. I'm now so much more aware of patterns everywhere, some simple, some complex.

For me Zentangle is so liberating; I've learned how to play and not to be perfect.
I invite all to experience this easy-to-learn, relaxing and incredible drawing method.
